Sports Shorts: Ultimate Cowboy

Coy Melancon, of nearby Batson, outlasted 13 other cowboys during the “Ultimate Cowboy Showdown” to win $50,000 worth of cattle as well as a belt buckle.

Hosted by country music superstar Trace Adkins and shown on INSP, Melancon and his horse Big John went head-to-head completing a series of challenges in the unpredictable climate of Douglas, Wyoming.

The 28-year-old father of four has won more than $200,000 as a competitive roper. He currently is a dayworker at dozens of ranches in Texas, Georgia, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Florida.
