School shooting threat leads to decades behind bars

A Lumberton man was sentenced to more than 20 years in prison for threatening to “shoot up a school,” as well as making threats to law enforcement officers and a justice of the peace.

According to court records, Steven Raibon Clawson, 29, was convicted Dec. 18, 2022, by a Hardin County jury for two counts of terroristic threat of a public servant and two counts of obstruction or retaliation, third-degree felonies, in the 356th District Court with Judge Steve Thomas. After the jury heard evidence submitted, the defendant changed his plea from not guilty to guilty.

On each count, Clawson was sentences to 5 1/2 years in state prison.

In February 2022, Clawson made threats to a Lumberton ISD school. During his arrest, Clawson also made threats to kill a local justice of the peace, the sheriff and a Lumberton police officer and his family.
