After leading Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) deputies on a car chase from Fannet to Beaumont, where the suspect and an officer crashed, authorities arrested a 15-year-old boy for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

On Jan. 15,  at about 3:25 a.m., JCSO deputies were dispatched to the 10000 block of Jonathan Court in Fannett in reference to a suspicious person.

A resident called to report that their alarm went off, indicating that someone was in their yard.  When they looked at their security camera, they saw a tall teenager in a blue jacket wearing a facemask get into a small passenger car.

When deputies arrived, they observed a teen who immediately began to flee in between houses. When assisting units arrived, a white Ford truck quickly fled the area. A JCSO deputy activated his emergency lights and siren in an attempt to stop the truck. The truck sped into Beaumont and wrecked out at the intersection of Washington and Fannett Road. The patrol vehicle also wrecked at the same intersection.

A lone boy fled on foot, but deputies were able to quickly take him into custody. Both the deputy and the suspect were medically cleared. The suspect was booked into the Minnie Rogers Juvenile Detention Facility on the charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and evading detention in a motor vehicle.

JCSO identified the suspect as a 15-year-old boy from Louisiana. The truck was stolen in Fannett where the initial call originated. Deputies also recovered two handguns that were reported stolen, with one still missing.
