After his wife “upset” him with a Facebook post, a 62-year-old Vidor Police Department (VPD) officer held a gun up to her head and assaulted his partner after an April 4 argument escalated to physical violence.

The victim called BPD with news that her husband, VPD Officer Michael Steven Shaw, had just assaulted her while holding a Springfield Armory 1911 pistol to her head at their Chicory Street residence sometime before 6:40 p.m.

According to a probable cause affidavit written by BPD Officer K. Smith, the 39-year-old woman got into an argument with Shaw because of something she posted on Facebook, “which made Michael upset.”

“(She) stated the argument resumed in their master bedroom, where Michael proceeded to push and shove (her),” the probable cause affidavit reads. “(She) also stated she attempted to strike Micael, but Michael grabbed his Springfield Armory 1911 pistol and put it to (the) right side of her head. (She) attempted to grab the pistol and take it away from Michael.”

The affidavit goes on to say that the victim’s hand was scratched by Shaw pulling the gun back. Shaw then allegedly began to strike his wife with an open palm in the face and back of her head. Responding officers noted red marks on the woman’s head, hands and upper chest.

BPD law enforcers arrested the alleged law-breaker after finding him on Highway 105 driving drunk in his unmarked VPD Dodge Charger.

VPD Chief Rod Carroll told The Examiner Shaw is on administrative leave pending the investigation.
