Saturday, Jan. 7, Beaumont Police Department officers patrolling in the area of Lucas and Concord just before midnight observed a stolen Hyundai Elantra, according to a news release from the department.

Officers reportedly attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the stolen vehicle; however, the driver fled, lost control of the vehicle near the intersection of 11th and Washington, striking two other vehicles. All five occupants of the stolen vehicle then fled on foot, police report.

As the stolen auto burst into flames, BPD officers gave chase and captured all five fleeing juveniles. According to a report from BPD, all five juvenile suspects were transported to a local hospital for medical clearance.

Four of the five suspects were then transported to Minnie Rogers Juvenile Detention Center: two 16-year-old black males, one 16-year-old black female, and one 14-year-old black male; all charged with engaging in organized criminal activity, evading in a motor vehicle, evading on foot, resisting arrest and criminal trespass.

The fifth suspect, a 16-year-old black female, was released from the scene with charges pending.
