July 19, the Port Arthur Police Department was dispatched to the scene of “a major motor vehicle accident” at the Causeway Bridge/Highway 82, 4000 S MLK, on Pleasure Island at approximately 7:15 a.m. According to responders, the accident resulted in two fatality deaths involving two commercial vehicles.
Two hours after the crash, PAPD notified motorists that the area of the accident was still closed to through traffic, including Highway 82 at the Causeway Bridge from Umphrey State Park to the entrance of South Levy Road.
“Alternate routes should be taken to and from Cameron Parish, Louisiana,” the department advised.
