Beaumont Main Street, headquartered in the heart of downtown at 505 Orleans St., Ste. 103, announced July 15 that it has received its 2022 accreditation from Main Street America, “the leading voice for preservation-based economic development and community revitalization across the country.”

The performance standards upon which accreditation is based fall into the following six categories: broad-based community commitment; leadership and organizational capacity; diverse and sustainable funding; strategy-driven programming (Main Street Transformation Strategy model); preservation-based economic development; and demonstrated impact and result.

National Main Street and the Texas Main Street programs through the Texas Historical Commission provide technical expertise, resources and support for Texas Main Street communities. Using a team-centered, four-point approach to organization, economic vitality, design and promotion, Beaumont Main Street “strives to provide highly effective, individualized services and programs to reach revitalization and preservation goals.”

According to the organization, “Beaumont Main Street positively impacts the economic vitality and thoughtful preservation of important historic resources in downtown. Partnered with the City of Beaumont, Beaumont Main Street has been working since 1992 toward a thoughtfully designed, sensitively preserved, and economically vibrant downtown.”

“Over $238 million has been reinvested in downtown Beaumont,” said Executive Director Tom Bell. “Our organization is locally powered by a group of businesses and individuals who sincerely care about saving our historical downtown for future generations.

“For 30 years Beaumont Main Street has worked with the city of Beaumont and additional partners to create a supportive environment for investment, enhance the visual assets of our downtown district, promote downtown as the center of our community and share resources for investors.”
