The Art Museum of Southeast Texas (AMSET) will present ART NATIONS: The Snowmen on view Aug. 18 – Nov. 13 in AMSET’s Café Arts series for local artists. On Sunday, Nov. 6, from 2 - 4 p.m., AMSET will host an artist’s reception that is free and open to the public.

For this exhibition, Nations will show his snowmen paintings and drawings. The snowmen first made an appearance in his work in 1983, and he has continued to depict them through various series.

“Snowmen are mysterious and uncanny creations made by ourselves in our image,” Nations said of his muse. “No one really knows when or who made the first snowman, but they were first recorded in manuscripts in the 1300s. Snowmen, like ourselves, are transitory and fragile creatures. Some of my pieces address the Human Condition or curious circumstances, while others are focused on simply formal pictorial concerns.”

A price list will be available at the front desk or by contacting Caitlin Clay, Curator of Exhibitions, at cclay@amset.org. For more information, follow the museum on social media @amsetx, visit www.amset.org or call (409) 832-3432.
