Groovy baby! It was a Night at the Disco last Friday evening at the Event Centre as CASA of Southeast Texas hosted their annual Justice is Served fundraiser. Many of our local judges dawned their aprons including Larry Thorne, Randy Shelton, Benjamin Collins, Terrance Holmes, Brittany Holmes, Raquel West, Gerald Eddins and Mitch Templeton and served the crowd drinks and dinner throughout the evening. Emcee Vanessa Broussard kept the program rolling. Enjoying the evening were Regina Rogers, Vernice Monroe, Bishop Curtis Guillory, Kim and Dade Phelan, Karen and Bob Wortham, Maris Mehaffy, Lauren and Gregg Brooks, Chad Dubea, Kelley and Lawrence Leger, Lisa and Brent Coon, Paula Richardson, Randy Martin, Andrea and Taylor Neild, Angela Dodson, Mark Kubala, Sharon and Roger McCabe, Kate and Wil Thorne, Kirk Gillespie and Roni Stephenson, and so many others. Executive Director Liz Woods and Event Chair Lisa Coon were thrilled with the record turnout!
What a delicious day… The 20th annual St. Joseph’s Day celebration was a huge success with many people attending and enjoying the delicious St. Joseph’s Day meal of pasta, St. Joseph tomato gravy, artichoke and green bean casserole, Courville’s fried fish, bread, dessert, tea and wine. Bishop David Toups blessed the food on the St. Joseph Altar and then went into the kitchen and outdoors to the cooking areas to bless the tomato gravy, pasta, and fish that was being fried as well as the to-go meals and all of the wonderful volunteers including Chelle and Rich Courville, Father Michael Jamail, Father Shane Baxter, Father Joseph Sigur, Eleanor Means, Clara Jo Liberto, Becky and Derik Viator, Hillary Shanning and Stephanie Gertz (who decorated the beautiful St. Joseph Altar this year), Debbie and Bill Gier, Shelley Tortorice, Louise Fazio, Rose Ann Brocato, Dolores Mathews, Joe Cascio, Emmy Auzenne, Nedra Magee, Melba Theriot, Anita Leger, Ida Soileau, Patsy Kirkland, Marie Roach, Paulette and Paul Guidroz, Doug Soper, Taryn Soper, Mark Fiorenza, Vic Soares, Sherry Martel, Carol Fernandez, Mike Cacioppo, Mary Jo Cacioppo, Tony Tortorice, John Begnaud, Barbara and Ray Courville, Karen Fuljenz, Teetsie and Jim Champagne, Carol Gary, Mellie and Sam Bevilacqua, Diane and Flint Barboza, Paula Lovoi, Ina Messina, Gretchen LaFleur, Linda and Joe Domino and so many wonderful others. Attending this wonderful community event were Bishop Emeritus Curtis Guillory, Karen Soares, and Luca Morrell, who represented Saint Joseph, Mary, the Mother of Jesus, and Jesus as a young boy, for the traditional Tupa-Tupa Knocking Ceremony, Mark Kubala, Pat and Tommy Frank, Nikki and Joe Ramey, Annette and Al Caldwell, Mireille and Father Michael Pavez, Brittany Pippin, Brianne and John Morrell, Frank Messina, Lisa and Sam Parigi, Geneva Dixon Peters, Kathy Tortorice, Susan Legnion, Loretta Gary, Melody Ortiz, Father S. J. Culotta, Tamara and Frank Domino, Bill and Cindy Yoes, June and Charley Messina, Judy Hargraves, Connie and Milt Prewitt, Kathe and Tim Hendrix, Beverly Escamilla, among others. All proceeds are donated to many local charitable organizations.
Green thumbs… the Magnolia Garden Club will host its 2022 flower show titled, “Floriography,” at the Art Museum of Southeast Texas on Monday, March 28, from 1-4 p.m. and Tuesday, March 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The bi-annual show features floral design categories as well as over 200 specimens of cut flowers, stems and potted plants on display. Entry is free. See you there!
Hear ye, hear ye… the community is invited to attend the Neches River Festival’s King LXXIV arrival Wednesday, March 30, at the downtown Event Centre at 5:30 p.m. Don’t be late!
