The American Cancer Society hosted their kickoff party last Thursday at Madison’s on Dowlen for their annual Cattle Baron’s Ball Gala. Kathy Chessher, senior community development manager for this area’s ACS, had to miss the event, but was certainly there in spirit. Guests donned their western attire for this year’s theme – Yellowstone – and they also hope to snag some of the actors from the incredible television series to attend. This year’s honorees are Tom Schwaab, Shawn Hanley-Atkins and Wade Witt. Sippin’ on libations and playing conversation catchup after the honorees were introduced were Micah Dobbs, Jim Love, Angie Miller, Charles Woods, Angelia Wilkins, Terri and Lee Potter, Glen Hicks, Amy and Pat Anderson, Katie Weinnig, Tena Cobb, Renee’ and Charles Smith, Juliana Anzell, Pat O’Brien, Wanda Witt, Joe Atkins, Sondra Schwaab, Dee Lane, Rita Hurt, and event chairs Natasha and Colin Garrett, Arianne Garrett, Gavin Garrett and others. The 33rd annual event will take place Saturday, Nov. 12, inside the Beaumont Civic Center at 7 p.m. This year’s headlining entertainment is Grammy-winning country band Diamond Rio, who will perform all their big hits like “Meet in the Middle,” “Norma Jean Riley,” “One More Day,” “Mirror, Mirror,” “One More Day” and “Beautiful Mess.” Opening the evening will be the Jamie Nichols Band. Of course there will be a delicious dinner, dancing, silent and live auctions, raffle tickets and amazing chance drawing opportunities. Tickets and sponsorships are available online at setxcattlebaronsball.com. All funds raised will help the ACS fight to end cancer. To quote “Yellowstone’s” Beth Dutton, “Cancer is the trailer park, and ACS is the tornado.” See you Nov. 12 in your boots and hats. Giddy up!

So juicy… by now, everyone has picked up their delicious peaches from Young Life and are busy making those peach cobblers and pies. Yummy!

Art galore… Join the Art Museum of Southeast Texas on their First Thursday event Thursday, July 7, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. This is also a special opportunity to purchase original artwork while supporting AMSET. All proceeds generated from the art sale will assist the museum’s exhibitions and collections programs. While you’re there, check out their newest exhibit, “Keliy Anderson-Staley: Documents & Dwellings.” Anderson-Staley is a Houston-based artist and the Associate Professor of Photography and Digital Media at the University of Houston, who was recently awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship. The exhibition includes the installation of “Shelter in Place,” a 10-foot by 10-foot house structure covered in over 560 tintype portraits. An opening reception is slated for Friday, July 8, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and includes a gallery talk by Anderson-Staley herself. See you there!

A little bit of history recently took place down at the beach… experts in historic architecture, engineering, masonry, iron works, and construction, gathered to begin work on the Bolivar Point Lighthouse. The mission of the nonprofit Foundation is to restore the majestic lighthouse and welcome visitors tours and events to the tower. The iconic Lighthouse has survived 150 years of storms and is a jewel of the Texas coast.

Festive Fourth… Don’t forget to attend our fair city’s 36th annual Fourth of July Celebration at the Downtown Event Centre beginning at 5 p.m. While you’re there, enjoy the Symphony of Southeast Texas at the Julie Rogers Theatre at 8 p.m. for an evening full of patriotic tunes with a special appearance by the Southeast Texas Starlettes. Red, white and you!

News of I do’s… Nick Leasure recently presented Madison Gober with and engagement ring, and she excitedly said yes. Congratulations!
