Two arrests in Vidor Flea Market burglary

Police in Vidor arrested two suspects reportedly attempting to burglarize the Vidor Flea Market on Dec. 19.

According to a police report, Sgt. Thomas Meadows responded to a call at about 2:20 p.m. in reference to a burglary in progress at 21293 Interstate 10, on the corner of the access road and West Courtland. Upon arrival, Meadows reports, he spotted one man, identified by the officer as “the lookout,” outside the rear of the building.

Unfortunately for the other would-be burglar, the lookout apparently was not able to warn his cohort that they had been caught. Sgt. Meadows found the second suspect inside the closed business and placed both under arrest for burglary.

Felon in possession of a firearm

Vidor police arrested a 29-year-old felon with 10 warrants and an illegal firearm on Dec. 20.

According to a police report from Vidor Police Department (VPD) Officer Dillon LaPoint, he was patrolling the area near Interstate 10 and North Main St. when he spotted a Chevy pickup that failed to signal as it turned. LaPoint pulled the truck over in the Popeye’s parking lot on Main Street and approached the driver, identified as Anthony Jase Allen.

LaPoint ran the driver’s identification and discovered the man had 10 warrants out for his arrest, some for several traffic violations and others for failing to appear in court to answer to his citations. When LaPoint asked Allen if there was anything in the truck he should not have, Allen immediately told the officer he was a felon and in possession of a .45-caliber handgun. Allen was arrested for the warrants and charged with a felon in possession of a firearm, a third-degree felony. He was taken to the Orange County Jail.

LaPoint reports that Allen has two felony convictions, one for aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury and for burglary of a habitation. He was not on the Orange County Jail roster on Dec. 28.
