Thank goodness this duck season is over. It was absolutely the worst that I can remember after over five decades of chasing these wonderful waterfowl. I don’t know what happened, it’s anybody’s guess. Its’s not that we have an acute shortage of ducks.

Fishing along the coastal jetties that can be found from Sabine Pass to Galveston can be very good for sheepshead during the late winter months. Best bait is freshly peeled shrimp.

Catching a fish these days is not the easiest thing to do when temperatures go from one extreme to another. Crappie are easy to catch right about now on the Angelina River on the upper part of Sam Rayburn Lake.

Catching reds like this one on Sabine Lake has been good lately, with one of the best lures being a red shad Assassin rigged up on a 1/4 ounce jig head.

Opening weekend of the Texas duck season in the South Zone was one that had lots of hunters heading out of the field with a limit of teal and scattered pintails. Needless to say, there was a whole lot of high fiving going on.

November the 6 is a big, big day across Texas. It’s the opening of the general gun season and thousands of hunters will be out and about looking to put a big buck on the ground, along with some tasty and very healthy venison in the freezer.
