Filing set for Sour Lake council seats

The filing dates for the upcoming election for the Sour Lake City Council are Wednesday, Jan. 18, through Friday, Feb. 17, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at City Hall, 625 State Highway 105. There are three at-large seats up for election, currently held by Robin Powell, Johnathan Williams and Rebecca Gardiner.

A small town is looking into how to condemn a one-half acre property that includes an old abandoned and run-down medical clinic, an old doublewide mobile home behind it and several vehicles. The property was a topic of conversation during the Sour Lake City Council meeting on Nov. 15.

The Sour Lake Police Department reported it has received multiple reports of social media scams and issued a warning to teens and young adults. “It starts with a seemingly innocent social media account friend request or add,” the department warned.
