Walk Across Texas! program kicks off Feb. 1.

The Walk Across Texas! program, an online physical activity promotion program offered by AgriLife Extension, will kickoff Wednesday, Feb. 1. The program is designed to help Texans be more active. Adult and youth teams are encouraged to work together to virtually travel 832 miles across Texas.

Sour Lake Farmers Market opening

The grand opening of the Sour Lake Farmers Market is Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Lions Club Park on South Ann Street. Hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be homegrown produce and products available, along with homemade crafts and goods, and educational booths.

The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) is urging Texans, especially older adults, to beware of both phone and online scams. In 2021, more than 6,700 Texans over age 60 reported losing more than $159 million to fraudsters, reported TDI.

Man arrested for felony child sex crime

An area man was arrested on felony child sex charge, according to a Silsbee Police Department arrest report. Jan. 11, Christopher Scott Sundgren, 40, was arrested for aggravated sexual assault of a child, a first-degree felony.
