Couples celebrated for making marriage work

Couples are coming together to serve up laughs, food and a few pointers on marital bliss with the “Not-So Newlywed Game” event, scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 9, all to benefit the work of Samaritan Counseling Center of Southeast Texas.

Historic house to undergo restoration project

With the end of January, McFaddin-Ward House administration announced the commencement of an extensive electrical project to rewire the 118-year-old home as part of its ongoing restoration and preservation efforts.

Scholarship pageant set in Orange Co.

The annual Miss Orange County Scholarship Pageant is Saturday, April 1, in the Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School Auditorium. The contest is open to Orange County residents only, ages 9-18. Deadline to register is Feb. 28. For more information, visit www.missorangecountytx.org.

Up the creek – with a paddle

Explore the Big Thicket with a guided canoe trip to experience the waterway of the preserve from a new angle. The free adventure targets the casual and novice paddler. Canoes, life jackets and paddles are provided. Visitors are asked to bring water, snacks and water shoes.

The third annual Hardin County Go-Texan Valentine and Steak Dinner Scholarship Fundraiser is Tuesday, Feb. 14, at the Honky Tonk in Silsbee. Tickets are $60 per person with only 200 tickets for sale. Ticket includes choice of 12 oz.

Library hosts fun, philanthropy

Continuing a January event lineup of teen-flinging, tweens ages 11 and up are invited to the R.C. Miller Library on Saturday, Jan. 28, at 3 p.m. for an afternoon of crafting and making sun-catchers to catch some rays while awaiting the return of spring.

AG investigates title protection company

Jan. 24, the Texas Attorneys General’s Office announced an investigation of Home Title Lock for potentially violating the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act by misleading consumers with deceptive statements concerning the prevalence of home title theft and the need for Home Title Lock’s services.
