Chili Cook Off in Silsbee

The Save The Pines Project’s Chili Cook Off is Saturday, Jan. 14, in downtown Silsbee. This is the third year for the event. There will be a first, second and third-place award and People’s Choice Award for the top teams.

Two named all-state choir

Lumberton High School junior Grace Dunwoody and freshman Emerson Treme were named to the Texas All State Choir recently. This is Dunwoody’s second time being named All-State. Next month, both students will perform in San Antonio at the Texas Music Educators’ Association Convention.

West Hardin’s Wells is state champion

West Hardin High School’s Logan Wells was named state champion in the UIL Class 2A Congress and Speech state champion last week in Austin. Wells is the fourth state champ in Congress and 11th Speech state champion from West Hardin since 2014.

Spindletop Rotary Club will host the Celebrity Roast of KFDM Meteorologist Greg Bostwick on Thursday, March 30, at the MCM Elegante’ Hotel from 7-9 p.m. Proceeds to benefit Some Other Place and Spindletop Rotary Club.

Bridge City’s Kylie Bock was crowned Miss Mardi Gras 2023 at the Julie Rogers Theater on Jan. 7. The 17-year-old attends Liberty University online and is finishing her high school through a college program. Following graduation, Bock plans to attend Texas A&M University in pre-med.

Big Thicket National Preserve is expanding the volunteer longleaf pine planting efforts to ecosystem-wide planting events this winter. Volunteers can join park staff and partners to plant longleaf pine and native grasses this winter.
