Amier Washington, who was the coverboy of The Examiner’s Southeast Texas High School Football Preview last season, committed to play football at Texas Tech University. The 6-foot-2, 260-pound defensive lineman had offers from Baylor, Houston and Central Michigan.

Sports Shorts: LCM soccer

Senior Annabelle Fisher, who is committed to play college soccer at Texas State next fall, scored her 100th career high school goal over the weekend when the LCM Lady Bears competed in the Salado Tournament. An all-state cross-country star, Fisher was also named Queen of the LCM Winter Formal.

Multiple area cheerleading squads competed in the UIL State Spirit Championship last weekend in Fort Worth, Texas. In Class 4A Division I, LC-M finished second overall with a total score of 90.53, which was 2 points behind first place Mabank. Lumberton finished fourth with an 88.07.

Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School has set its 2021 graduation for Tuesday, May 25, beginning at 8 p.m. in Battlin’ Bear Stadium. Top graduates this year are Bella Rogers and Seonghak Kim. Valedictorian Bella Rogers is the daughter of Mark and Carolyn Rogers.

Little Cypress-Mauriceville (LCM)CISD Bus No. 14, carrying 15 junior high and high school students, slid into a ditch off Glenda Road the morning of Monday, May 3. There were no injuries reported, according to Community Relations Coordinator Sherry Combs.
