Jefferson County is the latest county in Southeast Texas to implement a burn ban effective 2:30 pm, Oct 22. County Judge Jeff Branick told The Examiner the Keetch Byrum drought index numbers are up leading to extreme dry conditions.
Other area counties under burn bans include Chambers, Jasper, Newton, and Tyler. 147 of the 254 counties in Texas are under burn bans.
Anyone whose county is not under a burn ban are asked to use extreme caution and have a bucket of water or a hose nearby.
