Convicted killer Jamaal Howard, of Silsbee, has been put to death. Howard, 46, was executed in the Texas death chamber Wednesday, Oct 7, for the May 2000 shooting death of 42-year-old Vickie Swartout during a robbery at a Silsbee convenience store. Howard stole $114 and a carton of cigarettes during the murder. Howard was pronounced dead ata 8:03 pm, 19 minutes after an injection of pentobarbital. He was the seventh inmate executed in Texas in 2026 and the first in the nation since the failed execution of Christa Pike in Tennessee on September 30. In a final statement Howard apologized to the Swartout family. Texas has two more executions scheduled for 20256.
