A Silsbee man is scheduled to walk into the death chamber in Huntsville Wed, Oct 7, for the murder of a woman at a Silsbee convenience store 26 years ago. 46-year-old Jamaal Howard is facing lethal injection for the May 12, 2000 shooting death of Vickie Swartout during the robbery that netted $114 and a carton of cigarettes. Barring a last minute reprieve, Howard will become the seventh inmate in Texas put to death in 2026 and the 30th in the nation.
