Shelter cats and dogs (and even a goat) are waiting at the Port Arthur Animal Services Center for their forever homes and city of Port Arthur staffers hope that Saturday, Aug. 29, will offer a chance for the animals to find their people during a Clear the Shelter event, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Port Arthur Animal Services Center, 3615 Gates Blvd.
Adoption fees during the event will be reduced to $30, plus a $25 identification tag, for adult dogs and adult cats; and $15, plus a $25 identification tag, for puppies and kittens; 7-in-1 vaccines will cost $20.
In accordance with city ordinance, all animals adopted from the shelter must be spayed or neutered. Port Arthur Animal Services offers vouchers to a veterinarian to assist adopters with meeting the requirement and promoting responsible pet ownership.
“Come meet your new best friend and help us clear the shelter,” said Port Arthur Animal Services Director Anthony Mitchell.
