The Nederland City Council's proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2026-27 has a one and a half per $100 valuation tax increase. "The tax rate would go from 45.1% to 46.6%, which is a 3.3% increase". says Mayor Jeff Darby, who adds "All employees will receive a 3% pay raise". Nederland needs upgrades to its water distribution system, which was last upgraded in 1971. Nederland is purchasing $1.3 million fire truck that will take three to four years to build. The $35 million budget is up $280,000 from Fiscal Year 2025-2026. There will be a public hearing on the proposed budget on August 24, 2026 and a public hearing for the proposed tax rate on Sept, 14, 2026 The new fiscal year begins on September, 1 2026.
