April 20, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO), the Emergency Management Office, and Emergency Services District No. 3 assisted Union Pacific Railroad with a train derailment involving approximately 20 railcars located about one mile northeast of the intersection of Old Sour Lake Road and North China Road.
“No hazardous materials have been released,” JCSO advised the morning of the derailment. “One railcar containing a non-hazardous substance, beef tallow, has leaked a portion of its contents. There have been no reported injuries, and there is no threat to public health or safety. However, residents in the immediate area may notice an increased presence of Union Pacific personnel.”
