Two killed in I-10 crash

Two people were killed and another injured in a two-vehicle crash shortly after 10 p.m. March 24 in the 600 block of Interstate 10 North in Beaumont.

The crash shut down the roadway for about four hours as investigators examined the scene and crews cleared the wreckage. The roadway reopened about 2 a.m., according to the Beaumont Police Department (BPD).

Pct. 1, Place 1 Justice of the Peace Naomi Doyle identified the deceased as Wendall Johnson Jr., 49, and Charles Smith, 45, both of Beaumont. The decedents were in the same vehicle.

Another passenger in the car with Johnson and Smith was injured and taken to a hospital in stable condition. No one in the second vehicle was injured.
