A Beaumont truck driver was killed March 19 in a head‑on collision between two 18‑wheelers on Toll 49 in Tyler, reported KETK.com.
Tyler Police Department (TPD) announced the truck driver killed was Tammy Lee Asher, 59, of Beaumont.
According to KETK, the crash forced authorities to shut down a major stretch of the roadway for hours as emergency crews worked to secure the scene.
The crash happened when a westbound semi‑truck, driven by Asher, struck a guardrail and veered into oncoming traffic near FM 2493, slamming into another 18‑wheeler. The woman died at the scene, according to TPD.
The driver of the eastbound truck survived and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. Officials said the driver spoke with investigators before being treated by EMS and was expected to recover.
