Nederland Rotary Club hosts “Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs” youth fishing event

The Nederland Rotary Club will host its annual Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs (HOFNOD) event on Saturday, Feb. 7 at Doornbos Park in Nederland.
The free, family-friendly event is designed to promote healthy lifestyles, positive choices, and outdoor recreation for local youth.
The event is expected to welcome 150–200 children, providing them with a fun and educational fishing experience in a safe, encouraging environment. Participants will learn basic fishing skills, sportsmanship, and the importance of staying drug-free, while enjoying a day outdoors with Rotarians and community volunteers. Every child who participates will leave with a prize.
HOFNOD program is a long-standing Rotary initiative that pairs mentorship with hands-on activities to help young people build confidence, develop life skills, and make positive decisions.
“We are proud to continue this tradition and provide an event that brings families together while reinforcing strong values,” said Mandy Ferrell, president of the Nederland Rotary Club. “This program reflects Rotary’s commitment to investing in our youth and strengthening our community.”
The Nederland Rotary Club is currently seeking donations and event sponsors to help support supplies, prizes, and overall event costs. Community members and local businesses are encouraged to get involved and support this impactful program.
