The Nederland Fire Department, along with assistance from Port Neches, Groves, and Port Arthur, helped extinguish a fire that destroyed the Seventh Avenue Baptist Church, located at 200 Seventh Ave., Jan. 25.
The fire was reported about 6:30 a.m and appeared to have started in the attic of the church due to a lightning strike, according to the Nederland Police Department.
