Appeal denied: TEA affirms Beaumont ISD takeover

In a letter sent to Beaumont ISD Superintendent Dr. Shannon Allen, Texas Education Agency
Commissioner Mike Morath detailed the rationale for affirming the state agency’s intent to
take over administration of the local school district.
“A campus closure alone would not yield the strategic changes needed,” Morath’s letter reads,
acknowledging the district’s work to improve BISD, but noting that not enough yield on that
investment can be seen in student outcomes.
