Today Criminal District Court Judge John B. Stevens sentenced 33-year-old Jena Horn to five years in prison for assaulting a registered nurse at Baptist Hospital. Horn assaulted the nurse with her fists back in February while she was trying to render medical care to Horn as a patient. The nurse received serious injuries as a result of the assault by the patient. District Attorney Keith Giblin shared; "any assaults, kicking, hitting, spitting, on community servants such as nurses, medical personnel, and first responders will receive special attention and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. "
Baptist Hospital CEO Justin Doss advised; " On behalf of Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, I want to express our sincere gratitude to you, Keith Giblin, and the entire District Attorney's Office for your unwavering support of healthcare providers across Southeast Texas.
This recent ruling sends a clear message that violence against healthcare workers in Jefferson County will not be tolerated and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Your leadership and commitment to protecting those who serve our community is deeply appreciated.
Horn was convicted for Assault on a Public Servant, a third-degree felony. This case was prosecuted by Chief Mike Laird and the Beaumont Police Department helped with the investigation.
