Celebrating 72 years, the Symphony of Southeast Texas presents “Symphonic Dreams,” featuring a stunning program of classical masterpieces: Rossini’s “Italian in Algiers Overture”, Barber’s “Violin Concerto, op. 14”, Mendelssohn’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, and Mozart’s “Symphony No. 40, g minor.”
Led by Maestro Chelsea Tipton II, the symphony will be joined by special guest violinist Tai Murray, hailed as “superb” by The New York Times. Murray has established herself as a defining musical voice of her generation.
The Chicago-born Murray is currently an Assistant Professor, Adjunct, of violin at the Yale School of Music, where she teaches applied violin and coaches chamber music. She holds artist diplomas from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music and the Juilliard School.
A 2004 Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient, Murray was named a BBC New Generation Artist (2008-2010). As a chamber musician, she was a member of Lincoln Center’s Chamber Music Society II (2004-2006).
Murray has performed as a guest soloist on stages worldwide with leading ensembles, including the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Symphony Orchestra, and all of the BBC Symphony Orchestras. A passionate advocate for contemporary works, she premiered Malcolm Hayes’ Violin Concerto at the BBC PROMS in Royal Albert Hall.
As a recitalist, Murray has graced many of the world’s cultural capitals, with performances in Berlin, Chicago, Hamburg, London, Madrid, New York’s Carnegie Hall, Paris, and Washington D.C., among others.
