Sept. 4, the Orange County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) reported a man was shot and killed during a violent confrontation that ensued with a deputy, according to Chief Deputy Mark Dubois.
Dubois stated at 8:01 a.m., OCSO was called regarding a male subject, who has a history of mental health issues, making threats towards neighbors. At 8:20 a.m. a deputy arrived at the scene and began communicating with the subject before the confrontation.
Dubois stated the deputy discharged his firearm after being assaulted by the subject. The deputy was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of multiple injuries and the subject was pronounced dead at the scene.
"This is an ongoing investigation with Texas Rangers assisting," added Dubois. "More information will be released as the investigation progresses."
