“Vertigo” is considered one of Alfred Hitchcock’s best movies and deemed by many as one of the greatest movies ever made. This 1958 psychological thriller stars James Stewart as a former San Francisco police detective, who was forced to retire because an incident in the line of duty that caused him to develop an extreme fear of heights accompanied by vertigo – a false sense of rational movement. He is hired by an old friend, as a private investigator to follow his wife, all the while becoming dangerously obsessed with her. It was the first ever to use the dolly zoom – an in-camera effect that distorts perspective to create disorientation.
