Traffict alert for downtown Beaumont on Saturday, Feb. 5

The Diocese of Beaumont will host a 5K run on Saturday, Feb. 5, from 7-11 a.m. The event will affect streets throughout downtown Beaumont. The start/finish line will be at Archie and Forsythe. Please see attached map and plan your route accordingly.

The return of Mardi Gras

The good times will once again roll in downtown Beaumont as Mardi Gras Southeast Texas officially returns to the Great Lawn of the downtown Event Centre on Feb. 24-27 featuring parades, concerts, food, attractions, arts and crafts, and, of course, plenty of beads.

UIL announces realignment for 2022-24 high school football, basketball season

The University Interscholastic League (UIL) announced their 2022-23 and 2024-25 football and basketball district assignments and reclassification Feb. 3 at the Region 5 Education Service Center at Edison Plaza in downtown Beaumont.

Jefferson County correctional officer, LaQuintin Wilson, dies of covid complications

Deputy LaQuintin Wilson, a correctional officer for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, passed away Feb. 1 due to complications after contracting Covid-19, according to the JSCO Facebook social media page. "He was a gentle giant who showed tremendous respect for coworkers and inmates alike.

Judge Jim Mehaffy dies at 81

The Honorable James William Mehaffy Jr., Jefferson County 58th District Court Judge from 1994-2006, died Feb. 2, 2022. Born in Houston on Nov. 23, 2940, Judge Mehaffy, known to friends as Jim, was 81 years old.
