Big Thicket canoe trip

Join park rangers for a guided canoe trip on the waters of the Big Thicket National Preserve on Saturday, June 25, at 10 a.m. The program targets the casual and novice paddler, but canoes, life jackets, and paddles will be provided. Visitors are asked to bring water, snacks, and water shoes.

Warning of increased wildfire activity this weekend across the state

The Texas fire environment will support increased wildfire activity through the weekend, as hot and dry conditions persist across the state. Above normal temperatures and minimal rainfall is forecast for the third week in a row due to a period of high pressure that is impacting the state.

Hardin County residents nabbed in nearby counties

Four Hardin County residents were arrested in neighboring counties recently. Tyler County Sheriff Bryan Weatherford reported Steven Cody Jordan, 32, of Village Mills was arrested and charged with two counts each for aggravate assault with deadly weapon and abandoning/endangering child.

Hardin County residents on honor lists

Nine residents from Hardin County were named to the Dean's List of Academic Honors at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. They are undergraduates who have achieved a grade point average of at least 3.5 out of a perfect 4.

Hardin County requesting limited outdoor burning

Hardin County Emergency Management Director Aaron Tupper is requesting residents limit outdoor burning at this time, especially during high winds, as fires are getting out of control and spreading quickly.
