Fire crews remained on the scene during the morning hours of July 26 after a fire completely destroyed a Beaumont church. According to Beaumont Fire Department (BFD), the fire was reported about 10 p.m. July 25 at the Central City Baptist Church, located at the corner of Franklin St. and Avenue E.

Suspect arrested for 2005 Cleveland double murder

July 8, Shelley Susan Thompson-Lemoine, 41, of Freeport, was arrested for the 2005 deaths of Antonio and Luz Rodriguez in Cleveland, Texas. Thompson-Lemoine was taken into police custody at the parole office in Angleton by the Texas Rangers and detectives from the Cleveland Police Department.

Criminal District Attorney Bob Wortham announced July 22 that a jury found Percy Andrepont, 68, guilty of two counts of indecency with a child. Judge Raquel West sentenced Andrepont to serve 50 years in prison on each count after hearing punishment evidence from an additional victim.
