Jefferson County prosecutors seeking to try a 16-year-old as an adult for the assault of another student in the boys’ bathroom of Beaumont ISD’s West Brook High School earlier this year will make their case before a judge at the Minnie Rogers Juvenile Detention Center on Monday, Nov. 28. The teen has been detained at the facility since Sept. 7.

The accused assailant, according to someone close to the teen, has never been held at the detention facility before this occasion, but this wasn’t the first time the youth has been in trouble, they explained.

“He was caught on video footage stealing from students at the school before, (and) he vandalized the school,” they said, adding that no retribution came since no other student would “snitch.” “BISD has dropped the ball several times with him.”

The source, citing the youthful offender’s “dual personality,” said that the teen, “comes across as a very sweet person, but he has another side.”

Appalled at new bathroom assault video footage they are privy to, and shared with The Examiner, the teen’s former confidant expressed sympathy for the victim. In the video, which is allegedly taken after  they tried to rob the victim, footage shows the suspectslam the fellow student into the bathroom floor before laying a barrage of stomps to the upper body and face area.

“I think what was done to that kid is unfair,” they said, adding that the teen should face criminal prosecution for the “vicious” attack. “It was very disheartening to see someone with their foot on someone’s neck like that.”
