Aug. 5, the city of Beaumont announced it is getting close to finishing the Quiet Zone project that will silence train horns in a West End neighborhood.
“Most of the work is done,” the announcement read. “The only work left is a few final items, mostly new railroad crossing signs and other safety improvements.
“Our contractor is ready to finish the job, but the work must be done with railroad safety workers, called flaggers, on site. These flaggers are hired by the railroad, not the city. Their schedules depend on other railroad projects, and it can take several weeks to get them scheduled.
“City staff are working closely with the contractor, the railroad, and railroad safety teams to finish the remaining work as quickly as possible.
“Once these last items are complete and inspected, the project can be officially finished.
