PAPD reports two fatal car accidents in as many days

Just before 4 p.m. Aug. 18, Port Arthur police responded to a "major" motor vehicle accident involving a motorcycle in the 1900 block of Woodworth Blvd.

Investigation revealed the driver of the motorcycle failed to yield at a red light and struck a passenger vehicle. The motorcycle driver sustained serious injuries and was life-flighted to a Houston hospital. The woman driving the passenger vehicle was pronounced dead at a local hospital. 

The woman was identified as 27-year-old Maccie Rodrigues. The incident is under investigation.

Just over a 24 hours later, PAPD responded to an auto accident involving a pedestrian. Rachel Derese, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
