Man killed in auto-pedestrian crash

A male pedestrian was struck and killed April 28, according to the Beaumont Police Department (BPD).

Officers were called to the intersection of Calder Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway around 10:45 p.m. They discovered a deceased man, later identified as Damaarkus Baines, 29, of Beaumont, in the roadway.

A preliminary investigation indicated the man was attempting to cross the street and entered the path of an oncoming vehicle. The driver remained at the scene and was interviewed by officers. Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway was closed from Broadway to North Street until 2:20 a.m.
