Local nonprofit establishes Mardi Gras bead recycling program

The Explore Orange Convention & Visitors Bureau is partnering with Garlyn Place to launch a new annual Mardi Gras bead recycle program called "Krewe for a Clean Future."

Garlyn Place is a nonprofit dedicated to empowering adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities by creating opportunities for independence, connection, and meaningful work. Through this recycling project, uniters at Garlyn Place will learn valuable vocational skills — including sterilizing, sorting, counting, packaging, and reselling beads — helping build job readiness while supporting long-term program sustainability.

The drop-off locations are:

• Explore Orange at 812 N. 16th St. in Orange (City Hall)

• Orange Public Library: 220 N. 5th St. in Orange

• Childs Building Supply - Ace Hardware: 3704 N. 16th St. in Orange

• The Nutrition Spot-Vidor: 951 N. Main St., in Vidor

Beads can be dropped off now through March 20.
