Local man appointed to state committee

Gov. Greg Abbott reappointed Lumberton resident Ben Willis to the Governor’s Committee on People With Disabilities for a term set to expire Feb. 1, 2028. Willis was one of seven people appointed or reappointed.

The committee recommends changes in disability policies and programs, supports a network of related committees, issues awards to promote awareness and promotes compliance with disability laws.

Willis has served as a volunteer and ambassador for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and has been an appointee to the committee since 2022. He is studying engineering at Texas A&M University, with a goal of designing accessible vehicles and continuing to serve the disability community.
