Set in prehistoric times, “Firebringer” follows a group of early humans who stumble upon a discovery that will change their lives forever – fire. However, this newfound power comes with its own set of challenges. The dichotomy of laziness and progress makes humanity great and terrible at the same time. In the same way, “Firebringer” represents the duality of humankind – simultaneously managing to offer an important message while also relentlessly delivering one hilarious punchline after the other. Directed by John Manfredi, “Firebringer” features more than two dozen local students from Southeast Texas. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. for Aug. 2-3 with matinees Aug. 3 (2 p.m.) and Aug. 4 (3 p.m.).
