Jasper Co. Sheriff's report

Jasper County Sheriff Mitchel Newman reported a bevy of robberies in his jurisdiction in a report outlining the week’s crime.

“We had a robbery at the Valero in Brookeland on Saturday morning around 6 a.m.,” Newman reported Oct. 3. “We are processing evidence and following leads and believe that we have the suspect identified.

“There was a four-wheeler stolen off FM 1013 on Sept. 24, and Deputy Ryan located one on FM 82 over the weekend that had been spray painted a different color. We are working to confirm if it is the same ATV.

“Out in my neighborhood, a man stole a torch and gauges from one neighbor, then went next door and sold it to another neighbor. You just can’t make this stuff up. Folks who are struggling with addiction will do anything they can to feed it. If you can afford a camera around your deer feeder, you can put one at your house.”

Jasper’s county jail had 132 inmates as of Oct. 3.
