Lower fuel costs in 2024 mean bill credits for most residential customers starting in February

Entergy Texas residential customers will soon see savings on their electric bills. Due to lower natural gas prices in 2024, most residential customers will receive a fuel refund in early 2025. The bill credits will be automatically applied over a three-month period beginning in February, according to a news release.
The fuel charge on customer bills covers the cost of fuel used to generate electricity, as well as any electricity purchased from other companies to meet customer demand. This charge fluctuates with fuel prices, and Entergy Texas makes no profit from it, as it is passed through to customers dollar-for-dollar.
“Keeping energy costs affordable is at the heart of what we do,” said Stuart Barrett, vice president of customer service at Entergy Texas. “We know that every dollar counts, especially during the colder months when energy bills tend to be higher. By passing these fuel savings directly to our customers, we hope to provide some relief while staying true to our commitment to delivering reliable service at the lowest possible price.”
Here’s what customers can expect:
• For a typical residential customer using 1,000 kWh of energy per month, the refund will result in a $5.93 credit each month from February through April---a total savings of nearly $18.
• The bill credit will vary based on individual energy usage.
• No action is required, as refunds will be automatically applied to customer bills.
For the last 10 years, Entergy Texas’ rates have remained, on average, 18% below the national average, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
