The Texas Department of Public Safety has released the names of two men injured in the crash that killed one BPD officer.

DPS revealed Officer Gabriel Fells, 28, was driving the patrol car that was struck by a Ford Mustang traveling the wrong direction on Cardinal Drive Sunday morning around 2:30 a.m., according to a news release.

The wrong-way driver was identified as 18-year-old Port Arthur native Luis Torres. Both Torres and Fells were transported to a local hospital to treat their injuries.

Investigators believe Torres was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, the release reads, while blood specimen results are pending.

The crash remains under investigation.
