The city of Beaumont has confirmed that, on Friday, April 24, Interim Economic Development Manager and Assistant to the City Manager Miles Haynes’ employment with the city was terminated.
Although the city of Beaumont did not publicly state the reason for Haynes’ termination, The Examiner has confirmed the following policies were cited as reason for the separation:
Policy 3.1 Section IV. B. – Carelessness in the use of machines or materials.
Policy 3.2 Section III. F. – Employees shall not borrow or use city facilities or equipment or city property of any kind for personal or private gain or for any purpose.
Policy 7.2 Section II. H. – All use of the Internet must be in compliance with all applicable laws and policies (federal, state, and local, in addition to city policies). The internet is not to be used for illegal purposes.
Policy 7.2 Section II. J. – To ensure copyright compliance and to prevent the potential loading of programs containing hidden code to destroy or allow unapproved access, program downloads are prohibited. (2) Virus checks must be performed on the data prior to loading to city equipment.
Policy 7.2 Section III. A. – Accessing, posting or sharing any racist, threatening, obscene, or otherwise objectionable material (i.e. visual, textual, or auditory entity) is prohibited.
Haynes has worked for the city of Beaumont since November 2021 and was most recently among three internal finalists interviewed for the city manager position, which was ultimately awarded to Christopher Boone.
A graduate of Lamar University, Haynes served as assistant to the city manager, where he oversaw a variety of special projects, including management of the Youth Advisory Council Program. Beyond his municipal role, Haynes serves on the Board of Directors as treasurer for CASA of Southeast Texas, as well as on the Board of The Foundation of Southeast Texas, the Dream Center of Southeast Texas, CASA, and the Neches River Festival.
According to Boone, the responsibilities of the economic development department will be reassigned internally; however, no determination has been made at this time regarding whether Haynes’ position will be filled. Boone is set to officially assume the role of city manager May 1.
