Christus Health awards $300,000 to charities

CHRISTUS Health has awarded six nonprofit organizations to receive grants totaling a combined $300,000 through the CHRISTUS Community Impact Fund, supporting programs aimed to improve the health and well-being of local communities.

This year's recipients are Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas, Triangle Area Network, Samaritan Counseling Center of Southeast Texas, The Giving Field, Anayat House, and Spindletop Center.

Sharon Begnaud, with The Giving Field, tells The Examiner "This donation is a vital part of the community to be able to provide these clients with healthy  fruit and vegetable options and without the support of CHRISTUS and others in the community we would not be able to do what we do".   The Giving Field is an  organic garden in Beaumont that sends their harvest to area soup kitchens and food pantries to feed the hungry.

The local grants are part of a broader investment by the CHRISTUS Fund, which will provide more than $3.5 million this year to 56 nonprofit organizations across Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Latin America. The grants support programs addressing some of the most pressing needs in the communities CHRISTUS Health serves, including food insecurity, access to healthcare and housing insecurity.

"The groups we are partnering with today do amazing work, they are in total alignment with our mission in making the community better in every case and extend our mission in the ministry of Jesus Christ to all those in need. These recipients are partners with us day in and day out" Paul Trevino, President & CEO of CHRISTUS Southeast Texas.

The organizations were recognized  during the Blessing of the Hands ceremony, an annual CHRISTUS Health tradition celebrating the healing ministry of its Associates while recognizing community partners who share the organization's mission of serving those most in need.

Since its launch in 2011, the CHRISTUS Fund has invested more than $29 million in communities served by CHRISTUS Health, strengthening partnerships with organizations that share the ministry's commitment to improving the health and quality of life for those most in need.
