BPD promotes, swears in officers

The Beaumont Police Department held a ceremony Feb. 4 at the Julie Rogers Theater promoting seven officers to the rank of sergeant and swearing in two new officers.

Officers promoted to the rank of Sergeant:

Sgt. Craig Leger

Sgt. Christopher Pratt

Sgt. Shaun Boudreaux

Sgt. Michael Garris

Sgt. Tony Patterson

Sgt. Aaron Porter

Sgt. Greg Viator

Craig Leger has worked for the Beaumont Police Department for the past seven years. Prior to choosing his career at the department, he worked as a patrolman at the McGregor Police Department. Since serving at the Beaumont Police Department, Craig has been a member of the Beaumont’s SWAT team, worked as a motor officer in the Traffic Unit, and currently serves as a member of the Beaumont Police Department’s Honor Guard.

Christopher Pratt has worked for the Beaumont Police Department for the past 11 years and currently holds his master peace officer certification. While at the Beaumont Police Department, Christopher has worked in the Narcotics Division, has been a field training officer, and served on the department’s SWAT team.

Shaun Boudreaux has worked for the Beaumont Police Department for the past 12 years. Prior to law enforcement, Shaun served in the United States Marine Corps. After his military service, Shaun earned his bachelor’s degree from Lamar University in 2008. Shaun has worked as a field training officer, was a member of the Special Response Team, SWAT team, and, most recently, served as a K-9 officer.

Michael Garris has worked for the Beaumont Police Department for the past eight years. Prior to his promotion, Michael was a patrolman and served as a field training officer for six years. Prior to joining the Beaumont Police Department, Michael attended Lamar University, where he earned his associates degree in occupational health and safety.

Tony Patterson has worked for the Beaumont Police Department for the past 13 years. Prior to law enforcement, he served in the United States Army from 1997 to 2001. After his stint in the Army, Tony went on to work for the Lake Worth Police Department. Tony has been a patrolman and a field training officer for the past eight years.

Aron Porter has worked for the Beaumont Police Department for the past 10 years. Aron currently serves on the department’s SWAT team. Aron also served as a member of the Special Assignment Unit and was previously a field training officer. Prior to choosing his law enforcement career, Aron served in the United States Army, where he reached the rank of sergeant.

Gregory Viator has worked for the Beaumont Police Department for the past seven years. Prior to joining the Beaumont Police Department, Greg worked as a jailer at the Jefferson County Jail and worked as a patrolman at the Bridge City Police Department. While at Beaumont, Greg has served as a field training officer and a narcotics investigator. Greg is also a member of the Hostage Negotiator Team.

Newly Sworn in Officers:

Justin Flanagan – Justin recently completed the police academy at Lamar University. Justin joined the Beaumont Police Department because he has a passion for helping others and has a desire to make a meaningful impact. Prior to becoming a police officer, Justin attended Lamar State College Orange, where he was able to earn his associates degree in criminal justice. In addition, Justin earned his EMT Certification in 2018.

Jose Jasso– Jose was born and raised in Beaumont. He grew up in the South Park area and graduated high school from Central Medical Magnet. After graduating high school in 2017, Jose attended Texas A&M University until the Spring of 2020, when he decided to move back home to work for the Beaumont Police Department. Since Jose was a young boy, he has always desired to become a police officer.
