Three Beaumont teens were indicted Sept. 29 for theft of a firearm, a third-degree felony, after allegedly stealing a cache of firearms from a firefighter after area residents were evacuated ahead of Hurricane Laura.

According to the indictment, Dante William Bolden, 18, Deandre Lee Edwards, 19, and Derrick Keith Sheapard, 19, are accused of stealing “a large quantity” of firearms, firearm accessories and ammunition from a firefighter living in Beaumont.

During the investigation, officers observed a social media account -- known to belong to Shepeard -- displaying what appeared to be the stolen items from the burglary. The victim positively identified the items as his before officers obtained a search warrant for the Lumberton home of Bolden. Officers received the stolen items in Bolden’s bedroom, according to the charging document.

The indictment accuses all three teens of possessing the stolen items at some point during this criminal episode, and the charges were enhanced due to it occurring during a natural disaster declaration.
