Around 7:30 a.m. April 24, the Jefferson County Marine Unit responded to an overturned boat in the ship channel near Port Neches, according to a news release.

The JCSO Aviation Unit launched a search helicopter that located the overturned boat before a tugboat crew helped pull men from the boat. One of the men was found unresponsive and taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. His name will not be released until family is notified.

The 41-foot supply boat was transporting cargo to a ship when it encountered a wake from a passing boat, causing the starboard side to take on water and causing the weight to shift.
